Best village to stay in Cinque Terre?

Best village to stay in Cinque Terre?
We will be Cinque Terre in late October, 3 couples, and can't decide which village to make our home for 3 nights. Wondering if restaurants will be open in smaller villages that late in year. Considering the following places: La Poesia B&B in Monterosso or Hotel Pasquale; Limoni Camere in Riomaggiore; Ca'd'andrean in Manarola. We will be driving from Lucca. Any help greatly appreciated! I'd stay in the largest, Monterosso. Vernazza was my favorite but in Oct go with the larger (more options i guess!?) We stayed in Riomaggiore in the heart of summer and it was overun with young backpackers. In restrospect would have stayed in the other two. Enjoy!

I agree. I really liked staying in Monterosso. I think the old part (and even the new part) has a lot of charm. We really enjoyed staying at Villa Steno. It's at the top of the main street, but it has a nice feel and has a nice bird's eye view of the area, and it's a bit quieter, being set back from the main square a bit. I'll 3rd Monterosso. One reason we liked it is because of the New Town/Old Town setting. My suggestion would be to stay in the NT and visit the OT, because the NT is quieter.
We stayed at the Hotel Cinque Terre (sometimes referred to as the "Hotel 5Terre"
, and I'd recommend it. It was a little pricey for what you got, but we were there on Easter weekend, so that may have affected the price. Clean, modern rooms; good breakfast; very friendly, helpful staff.
I have heard good things about the Steno, but haven't stayed there.

Cinque Terre will still have plenty of people in October if the weather is like usual. I would stay in Vernazza, my favorite, especially at that time of year because hopefully there won't be as many tourists and you can see what the town is really like.

Thanks for the replies....I just found Camere Guiliano in Vernazza. Lots of good things being said by people on Rick Steve's website and tripadvisor website. Now considering Vernazza! I wake up at night thinking about all these charming places...can't wait to go!

We just got back from a 3 night stay in Vernazza and loved it. Though allot of tourist stay there it's definitely a small working italian town. Our favorite time was when all the tourists left and we watched the parade of locals; fisherman talking, the women walking, and the children all playing out in front of the church.
We didn't stay with Guiliano, but met him at the Blue Marlin every morning where we had coffee. Lovely man. Next time we will stay at his place.
We stayed at Hotel Gianni 47. It was nice. Rooms were small but comfortable and very clean.
btw Blue Marlin had a Pesto pizza that was so good.
I can see the appeal of Monterosso. It's much bigger then any of the other towns and it has a very nice beach. We did go over there a couple of times and listened to the waves.

We have been to the Cinque Terre only one time--and stayed in Vernazza at Camere Guiliano. We definitely would stay there again. It would be PERFECT for 3 couples because of his large terrace with the magnificent view of the sea. Our room was very comfortable, attractive, clean, and very reasonably priced. Guiliano is a gracious host.
His rooms are up on the hillside--and you will need to schlep your bags up yourself--unless you make arrangements with Guiliano and he offers to help you. ?? So, my advice is to start lifting weights in preparation, and pack lightly!
(Disclaimer: at the time, I was 48 years of age, female, with NO upper body strength, but smart enough to be traveling with a strong husband)
