best Vienna airport-city center travel option

What are the preferred options for transfering from VIE airport to the city center (near Staatoper)? Do you usually just take a taxi from the queue, reserve a car through a service, or take public transport? We are two people in our 50s with modest luggage who will have been traveling for the better part of a day when we arrive at about 9 a.m. on the Saturday of Easter weekend

What should we expect to pay for a service or taxi?

Thank you for any advice.

If you can afford it, always take a taxi or private/personal shuttle. Mike

As you exit Customs, you will find in front of you a taxi counter. I seem to remember that they gave me a very good price of 35 Euros for the trip to the centre of the city. For the return trip, I asked the receptionist to get me a cab from a company that they knew and the fixed rate was 30 Euros.

Thank you for the advice! We'll wait and take a taxi rather than booking a transfer service in advance.

I would use a taxi as well. We took the CAT into the city a few years ago but managed to get ourselves very lost looking for our hotel. Not a fun situation after flying for nine hours and having the drag luggage everywhere! After that trip I always use a taxi or shuttle service when I arrive at a European airport and need to get to my hotel in the city.

By the way, the CAT is the express train from the airport to the city.

A taxi will cost you in the 30 euro range. The shuttle vans (booked at the airport) cost me around 15 euros the last time I used one, but then you have to wait for them to fill up the van and your hotel may not be the first stop.
If it won't crimp your budget, take a cab.
