Best use of time in Norway

I will be in Norway for 5 days (only!) next month. I will fly in from Stockholm on Sunday and fly to Copenhagen on Friday. Should I fly in to Oslo and spend a day there and then go to Bergen (and from there go to the surrounding cities) or should I go straight to Bergen? If your answer is skip Oslo, is it worth it to fly in to Oslo just to take the train to Bergen, which I hear is stunning.

Also, what's the difference in taking the Bergensbanen from Oslo to Bergen vs. taking NIN from Oslo? Which is better?

Thanks in advance!

On a typical Oslo-Bergen NIN itinerary, you'll ride the Bergensbanen from Oslo to Myrdal, and then from Voss to Bergen. You'll only missing a small section, part of that inside a tunnel.

The extra part that makes it NIN are the Flam railway, the fjord cruise and a bus ride (which goes up a switchback road to Stalheim).

thanks, rkkwan.
what's the difference between taking NIN from Oslo or Begen? Do you get to less if you take it from Oslo?

You need to look at the official site here:

www.norwaynutshell.com/visartikkel.asp?art=96

The NIN is basically the train/ferry/bus trip between Myrdal and Voss. And you connect to it to/from Oslo or Bergen using the Bergensbanen.

You can do Oslo/Oslo, Bergen/Bergen, Oslo/Bergen, Bergen/Oslo in one day. Or you can get to Voss yourself and do a Voss/Voss loop.

It's nothing more than a package of tickets for those transportation, which connect to each other.

If you do a search for "Nutshell" or "NIN" in this forum, you'll see plenty of posts, including variations of the trip, and good overnight spot (like the Stalheim Hotel, which you can also book directly with your NIN package).
