Couldn't live without my IPOD! From audible.com, I download books. Instead of tossing and turning, or having my mind going 100 miles per hour, it helps to put me back to sleep when I awaken in the middle of the night

I just purchased the neatest little travel pillow on sale from restoration hardware. When folded into itself it's a down pillow for the plane, but when unfolded turns into a down pillow slip for your hotel pillow. I think it was regularly priced at $30-ish dollars...I scored it for $14.99. It's awesome!

I would never leave without a roll of white sports tape - I tear off small pieces(s) and cover any tender spots developing on my feet to prevent them from becoming blisters.
I made up a 'wine kit' that goes into a med/lg cosmetic bag: corkscrew, air-vacuum/pump and 2 plugs, 2 unbreakable wine glasses, small flask, mini-funnel.
I don't use wire hangers at home, but they don't take much space in the bottom of a suitcase, so I'll throw in a few of those.
Also, I bought one of those Tide stain-remover sticks; haven't used it myself but my friend cleaned the front of her child's t-shirt after dinner and it truly was miraculous.

This won;t take much of your money - but I never travel without a pair of tweezers and a small flashlight.
The first is great for splinters, pulling small articles from behind furniture (I always manage to drop my eyeliner or something) and doing small repairs on glasses etc.
The latter is useful not only in case of a blackout, but also in case of broken - or 10 watt - lightbulbs, if your car gets stuck in the dark, or in bad weather - or in case you need to signal someone.

I'm sold on my IPOD....and a couple of teensy battery powered speakers. Beats the heck out of "tvinanotherlanguage", though I did watch Bonanza in Portuguese in Brazil and found Hoss to be a total laugh. Hotel rooms sure seem better with a little rock and roll (or your favorite).
If you do buy travel books (I do...and quite often), think about donating them to your local library (especially if you live outside an urban area)after your trip. We last lived in a small town in Arizona which has one of the finest Caribbean and Central American travel sections anywhere, thanks to me.

thatgirldina,
THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
Christmas shopping? Check! Just ordered a slew of these for Christmas (and a couple of birthday presents). Blue for the "girls" and brown for the "boys".
Originally $34 - now $15 - what a deal! Thank you so very much!
If you have a small foot, their foot duvets are divine. So, so very warm. I was going to give them last year, but the larger sizes were sold out as soon as they went on sale.
Usually I have most of my holiday shopping done by October. This year will be a record - February!!!

I bought the iLingo Euro Pack on Amazon for like $25, which is half of what it goes for elsewhere, including the iLingo site.
That said, I didn't use it that much.
It takes over the Notes section of your iPod so you can't load anything else, like all the free city guides. But I didn't use that either.
Just listened to the iPod and used books for the city info. and looking up a few foreign words instead.
