Best Tours in Rome

I will be in Rome and Venice next week with
my family.(Wife and nine year old daughter)
I was hoping for some suggestions within regards to some of the better tours of the city. It is our first time in Italy and we
are spending three days in Rome and two in Venice.I am a great fan of this board and I look forward to posting my experiences upon our return. Steven

Hello Steven,

Here are a few companies that offer guided tours by bus:

American Express
Vastours
Appianline
Carrani
As they offer similar tours, everything really depends on the quality of the guide.

Scalareale (www.scalareale.org) usually gets good reviews for walking tours.

There are also several hop on/hop off bus tours.

Hope this helps ...

Steve

Also check out Enjoy Rome. They are cheaper than Scala Reale.

Steven:

Scala Reale is excellent. In particular, the Vatican and Sistine Chapel Tour with Liz Lev is fabulous.
For a customized (albeit much more expensive) alternative, try Alan Epstein (www.astheromansdo.com). Alan is an American who has settled with his family in Rome. He has written an excellent book "As the Romans Do" about what being a resident (as opposed to a tourist) of Rome entails.
