Best tours companies in Munich
 

I see a bewildering number of companies offering tours to Dauchau and Neuschwanstein. Can anyone recommend a particular company over another or tell me who to avoid? We also plan to go to Nurnburg but may just do that on our own.

The first question is, if you can do Nuremberg (I presume that is what you meant), then what service do you need a tour company to provide you for Dachau and the Neuschwanstein castle visits?

Dachau is a trivial commuter train ride then a short bus ride to the entrance. Once inside the compound, you can watch a short movie in English and read the comprehensive story of the KZ Gedenkstätte Dachau at the museum in English. After that, you can walk around the camp on your pace reflecting what happened there 70 years ago.

The Neuschwanstein castle (and Hohenchwangau Castle) are a train ride then a bus ride. Both castles can only be visited as a part of guided tour, so whether you like or not, there will be a guide. Depending on the time of the year, the Neuschwanstein castle tour should be reserved online.

I can't speak for day tours to the castles or other cities, but you don't need a company to get you to Dachau! Spend a little time online & you'll find all the info you need to get there & back.

As previous response noted, it is super easy to get there by local commuter train (S-bahn, take line S-2). Just make sure you've got the right ticket, if you're using some of the metro day passes it may not cover the longer trip to Dachau.

From the Dachau train station you can take local bus #726 to the memorial/camp site.
