Best time to visit St. Petersburg?

My husband and I are planning to book a cruise St. Petersburg to Moscow. Any recommendations for best time to go? Does anyone know (approximately) when the fall foliage is the prettiest? Thank you!

We took the St Petersburg to Moscow cruise this August. The weather was beautiful, except for some smoke from a forest fire, and the leaves were starting to turn. I believe the weather is too cold after the middle of September and the cruises stop about that time.

Only the core of summer lets you walk around comfortably, visiting ice cream stands, etc. Best near the "white nights" period when the sun stays up far into the night - novel and festive atmosphere, in the loose vicinity of June 21.

Hi Margaret<BR>Please do not forget that St.Petersburg will celebrate 300 aniversary in next year. But any way the best time to go will be from the end of May to the middle of September. Enjoy.

I'll second jt's recommendation: If at all possible, the White Nights!

Although we did not cruise from SPB to Mos, we were in Mos Sept 5-14 and SPB 14-22, 2011 and we had about 4 totally sunny days with temps 55-70. Otherwise it was drizzly, overcast, sprinkles, with rain during the night.
