Best time to visit Scandinavia

We plan to go to Sweden, Norway, Denmark and Finland next summer and wonder which month is the best time to visit. I know many of my relatives in both Sweden and Norway take the whole month of Aug. off to go on Holiday. If June too chilly or is the weather good - also what about Sept. Would love any input. We want to go to Stockholm, Bergen, Oslo, Helsinki and many other places in between. We also are leaning towards part of the trip being a cruise. Any ideas? Thank for your help.

Take a boat between Stockholm and Helsinki. Eat, drink, dance, take a sauna, treat yourself with beauty parlour/massage and be sure you are on the deck when the boat passes through the archipelago.

It is impossible to say anything about the weather. Could be anything. Right now it is a glorious autumn day, sunshine, leaves just starting to turn red/yellow and 18°C. But it could as easily be pouring rain and +8°.

We visited Scandinavian countries in July , many years ago. It was very warm.
I would say go at end June - or July. We will have the longest days, white nights.

elina, it sounds beautiful now with the leaves turning. Thanks for the recommendation to take a boat between Stockholm and Helsinki.

we went in early june
we still had to wear long sleeves and jackets at times but it was good sunny weather all the way but you never know in norway as the locals told us

there were no crowds which was nice
id avoid august - everyone is on holidays from all over europe

I was in Stockholm and Copenhagen in the second week of July, the weather was lovely.

I second the recommendation to go during the white nights if you can. Enjoy!

August is great. Beautiful weather and many hotel deals since there are very few busines travelers (they're all on vacation at their country cottages - or a beach in southern europe).

I would go for early Sep. May, june, July, Aug weather can be anything. Late summer the weather has kind of stabilized. Mid June and two months ahead is high season for foreign travellers in Norway.
