Best Time Of Year To Visit Venice

My husband and I are planning a trip to visit our son near Venice, Italy. We have never been it Italy and was wondering when was the best time to travel. It would be after January 2003.

Susan-

I live near Venice and since spring is my favorite season, I would suggest March or April to visit- not too crowded, everyone has their spring menus out and as long as you don't mind some showers, beautiful weather. Where does your son live?
Sia

Susan,
probably any time would be good except peak tourist season - July and August I think. We were there in March/April this year and loved it. It was quite cold at night (depends on what you're used to I suppose) but not too busy and great weather for lots of walking.
Kay

I was in Venice in early April this year. We had decent weather. A bit cool, but pleasant. It was crowded, but not unbearable.

I just returned from Venice and was there in mid July. Most everyone here "warned" me about how horrible July would be (weather, crowds, even smell!). The weather couldn't be better- low 80's with 70's at night, no rain at all, no crowds except near San Marco mid day, which we avoided, and no smell at all. Maybe we were just lucky, but don't rule out summer either.

Denise

May was enjoyable.
Occasionally needed a sweater, as it was cool.
other days, very warm.

My son lives in Vecenzia, northwest of Venice.

was in Venice in mid Feb...beautifully sunny but slightly chilly. No crowds and everything was open getting ready for carnivale...flights are cheaper in winter...I'm a fan of off-season euro travel

Hey Susan: Have you thought about asking your son who lives in Italy?
