Best time in spring for Tuscany

A spinoff from my flight thread:

Hi,

My husband and I are planning our first real trip since the birth of our daughter a year ago. My husband has never been to Italy, so we have decided to spend a week in Florence. We will fly into Rome and out of Venice just so he can be in those cities, but we have no site seeing intentions in either of them.

We would like to go when the weather isn't too cold, but before it is truely tourist season. We are thinking of going at the end of April or beginning of May. Is that a good time? Or could we even go earlier? I've only been to Italy in the fall, so I am clueless!

The last twenty days of spring are superb. Leading up to summer solstice.

Best wishes,

Rex

We were there in early to mid-May, which was great.

You know those pictures of the bright red poppy fields that don't seem real?

Can't say that there weren't any tourists, but not as bad as June I imagine.

If you're not going to see anything in these cities, why go at all? Fly into Pisa.

Wow. I didn't know that was an option. I just checked it out and the flights are $200 less than flying into Rome! Thank you.

The intention of going into Rome and out of Venice was that in the 6-8 daytime hours we would be in each place, I could take my husband to my favorite spots so he could see what I was talking about, but we wouldn't go in anywhere and we wouldn't be there long enough to take those cities off of our list of places to go.

Hi christieCA, may I suggest you also check out the airfare to Florence. Either Pisa or Florence would make more sense in view of your itinerary, and how nice you know that you can save some money flying into Pisa. But do check out the airfare to Florence also. BTW, I would go the beginning of May if possible. Enjoy!!
