Best time for Venice - Sept. or Oct?
 

Our plans for going to Venice in May have been delayed and we are now trying to decide between September or October. Any recommendations or thoughts to help us finalize our plans will be greatly appreciated.

Late Sept, Early Oct is a great time for Italy. The Porcini are in bloom.

I second Ira's vote. We were there in mid/late October and it was still nice, though jacket weather at night. The great thing about October is most of the crowds are gone.

we were there the third week in October and hit acqua alta. It was also noticable colder by then in Venice. We found the flood waters an adventure but one needs to be prepared. Enjoy..Venice is astounding!

We were in Venice 2 years ago the third week in September. Except for one day of rain (no acqua alta) the weather was very nice - Sunny with highs in the 70s. If you are lucky enough to avoid rain either Sept. or Oct. should be lovely.

Late September/early October is one of the best times of the year to go.

We were there early October and the weather was just perfect. Not too many crowds either.

Personnally, I would try to avoid taking any chance with the weather and would pick September. However, Venice is still heavily touristed in early september.
