Best time for Sicily

When is the best time for Sicily, considering weather, not too hot and not big crowds? We haven't been there since last century i.e.. BC = Before Crowds.
We are looking at September and/or October.
Thanks

The summer crowds begin to slack off the last week of September. First week of October will be less crowded and weather should still be acceptable. Towards the end of October, weather could become very unpredictable. A very slow period is from January 15 to March 15.

Sicily in May was heaven. Never too hot. Moderate crowds. September is still quite hot there, I hear. October is also warm enough to swim, but I was told the landscape is more brown. In May, the flowers are still in bloom.

I'm happy to hear that the weather is more temperate and that flowers will still be in bloom in Sicily in May. I've just booked my flights for 19 May - 3 June 2005!

Excellent timeframe: you can expect very temperate weather, with the possibility of several warm days.
