Best time
I've never been to Greece and I know very little about the coutry. When is the best time of year to go? When is the high season? Low?

Thanks

We visited Greece in early September, which was still warm enough for a swim, but not too hot. On the small island where we stayed, there were very few tourists and the Acropolis was not swarming with busloads.

Elvira, I just checked older posts and you mention spending time on Naxos. We're planning to spend 4 or 5 days on Naxos in September. I was last there in 1976 - half a lifetime ago. I don't remember much about the island (it was after all, the 70's), but I do remember liking it a lot. Any recommendations on where to go and what to see? Thanks.

I can tell you the island is definitely not hi-tech...we stayed in little cottages (we rented two since there were 6 of us) from
http://www.wwnest.com/kamari/index.htm

You will need to rent a car; there is a bus service, but in September it was on a very erratic schedule. Down the street from the cottages was a really good restaurant; we also found several other places just driving around. This was a downtime sort of trip, so we shopped, wandered around (drove the road around the island - oy oy oy - and saw two kouros), laid around the backyard, beachcombed...Naxos was a terrific vacation, and I'd recommend it in a heartbeat (oh save water bottles so you can go into town and have the olive oil station fill 'er up to take them home). There's a big supermarket near Naxos City where we stocked up on all sorts of goodies to bring home (as well as eat while we were there).

Hi Steve,
high season starts around the beginning of July, peak season is the first two thirds of August. Before and after that is relaxed and not too full and expensive. I think May, June and September are the nicest months.
For more info come and have a look at my Web site www.paros-online.com!
Greetings,
Martina
