best summer month for Norway
We are planning to visit Norway this summer and take one of the Hurtigruten cruises up the coast from Bergen to Kirkenes. We are flexible regarding which month to go (June, July or August) and I should add that my wife hates the cold.
Are there any advantages or disadvantages, weather or otherwise, regarding which month to go (other than the end of June having the longest days) ?? Thanks in advance for any advice. |
I went to Norway the first week of July and it was glorious. Mind you, the weather forecast had the whole week as rainy. It NEVER rained. The fuuny thing is that 9 July '05 in Oslo was 85 deg F sunny day; there were heat hazard warnings all over the local media!!
Be aware that temps do drop in the evening and a windbreaker is a MUST when it comes to Scandinavia summer travel. Unavoidable. |
July and August will be warmer than June. Otherwise, it is like playing roulette what kind of weather you will get.

I went to Norway last year in late June/early July, which coincided with a dry heat wave across Europe. Whilst is wasn't 100 degree heat, there was no a/c in the hotels and buildings, so it did get uncomfortable at times.
As Echnaton says though, it is basically a luck of the draw. |
For the best combination of warm and longest days . . . I'd say mid-July. Off course it can rain for a week on end at any time (like most of August 2009).
If you get decent weather . . . here are types of sunsets you will see (if you get decent weather) http://www.thenorwayfjords.com/Fjord-Sunsets.html |
Thanks to all.
Due to the cabin availability , it looks like we are going for July 28. |
