What time of year? In August there are a lot of hotel deals since so many locals are on vacation in southern europe or their country cottages.

The holiday month in Sweden is July, not August. I'm not sure I see the connection between where/when locals go on holiday and low occupancy of Stockholm hotel rooms, as locals do not typically stay in hotels when at home. The lower occupancy is due to other countries outside of Scandinavia being on holiday in August so less business travellers at that time of the year and this does not always result in deals.

We just returned from Stockholm and we stayed at Kung Carl Hotel. The rooms are large, beautifully decorated, in the heart of the city but on a quiet street. It within walking distance of a lot of places, near bus routes, etc. They offer a free, beautiful, large buffet breakfast.

If you are interested I would book early.
