Best Ski In Austria - Help! My Itinerary Has Changed
 

Where in Austria is the best ski experience (I may be going in November yet). And please compare it with Swiss skiing. Don't forget to comment on the price.

Skiing doesn't vary from country to country; it varies from area to area regardless of the country. In the Alps, skiing conditions are determined primarily by altitude, and skiing popularity is determined primarily by accessibility. So take any place in the Alps at an altitude likely to have snow at your desired time of the year, and pick the one you think is easy to get to. There is no such thing as "Swiss skiing" versus "Austrian skiing." In Austria, you might want to stick to the Tirol as the most likely area. Good luck.

Thanks for your prompt reply, Im really grateful for them as my schedule and itenerary has to change. I was going to compare St Moritz with Innsbruck in November. If budget is a top concern, which is more value for money, I would be classified as a beginner and want to enjoy the views as well. Which one would you go if you have 4 days.

Innsbruck would definitely be more economical, but, of course, you have to travel to get to the slopes. Guaranteed snow on nearby Stubai glacier, which might be a consideration that early (Nov.?) in the season.

Innsbruck is by far the most economical but I was there in november and the only skiable area was the Stubai glacier.

I love Silvretta Nova. It's not as crowded or chic (or as expensive) as some other areas (like Lech, Kitzbuehl) but it has lots of lifts and lots of kilometers of piste, it's nice and high, plus the views are to die for! But November is not reliable anywhere in Austria. I think most areas don't open until mid-December.

I lived in Salzburg and agree with others that the only reliable snow for November is on the glaciers. Stubai is very easy to get to from Innsbruck (via bus, approx 45 mins) and the skiing was some of the best I have ever done. My experience is that the prices in Austria are much cheaper than anywhere I have ever skiied.
