Best shoes for Paris
 

I've tried almost every brand, but all kill my feet. Anyone out there know of a special brand?

There have been many posts on this topic. I love to walk and have trouble finding the right shoes. After reading many posts on this topic I went out and bought Dansko Professional clogs. They were repeatedly recommended. I haven't used them in Paris but wear them all the time in NYC. They are great! Well worth the investment.

I'm going to take a wild guess that this is the same troll poster who wrote several other dumb Paris questions today.<BR><BR>No there is no special brand of shoes that works better in Paris.

Mephisto makes incredible walking shoes that are really made for comfort. They are very expensive but you can buy them cheaply on ebay. My wife and I liked ours so much we bought several other pairs and they are all extremely comfortable.

Dansko sells these wonderful &quot;work clogs&quot; that are not really clogs in that they have backing on the heel. They are incredibly comfortable and support you back also. I walked all over San Francisco in a pair with no problem pain at all. They cost $100 and come in a variety of colors. They are also pretty stylish as far as Paris goes. I've heard of another brand that is comfortable - Ecco - but not sure how stylish those are.

That's because you're not used to walk that much!!<BR>Have a rest from time to time and hop on a bus.<BR>Bring two comfortable pairs (at least) and change, before going out for dinner.<BR>I usually wear very soft Italian loafers and no high heels during the day, of course.

Just make sure they've got non-skid treds, since Paris dog-owners do not clean up after their pets.

Love, love, love my Eccoes. Bought 2 pairs 2 years ago 3 days before a trip to France--no breaking in, comfortable and they are waterproof.

I love Aerosoles. I wore mine for 2 1/2 months of traveling through Europe. They are pretty inexpensive. I got these particular shoes for $29.99 (sale). They can usually run about $60 for the newer styles. I have bought 2 other pair since and wear them whenever I am traveling or shopping in a mall.

Was in Paris over New Year's and I wore black leather Merrill's everyday. I have arthritis and my feet and ankles are the worst area but the Merrill's supported my ankles and feet better than any other shoe I have tried. They also have a thick rubber sole so they handle the cobblestones well (which are all over Paris). I couldn't find the style I wanted in the stores so I ended up buying them from Shoebuy.com.

I know this post has been done before because I printed it out hoping to find some shoes that will work for me. Last time in Europe, our trip was nearly perfect except for my swollen, aching feet. I love to walk, but am not used to 5-6 hours (or more) daily.<BR><BR>Well, I tried on everything recommended, but ended up with a pair of Josef Seibel's. Decided to &quot;try them out&quot; here first, so after wearing them around a few hours a day, took my dog on an hour walk and my feet ended up aching. I'm fine in tennis shoes, but don't like wearing them in cities, but am just about at my wit's end. Luckily, I purchased these at Nordstrom, so know they will take them back, but like &quot;tired,&quot; I am searching for helpful suggestions too.

I haven't been to Paris yet (next week) but ended up buying BareTraps brand - black ankle high boots with a thick and flexible rubber sole for the trip.<BR>I tried many recommended brands such as Ecco (fit too long for one foot), Aerosoles (so-so), couldn't find any Sudini that I liked.<BR>By the way, Zappos.com is a great place to buy shoes online. They're always a good price and shipping/return shipping is free!<BR>So I have broken in the BareTraps in San Francisco and through Christmas shopping. They are really quite comfy for the look.<BR>I shopped everywhere in Los Angeles from Nordstrom, Saks, right on down the line, trying on every boot in my size. My husband even broke down and went with me since I was having such trouble. But after all that, I ended up buying these BareTraps at a Factory Brand Shoes store (in Alabama, no less) and they were on sale for $25!<BR>It's the luck of the draw, I guess!

although i haven't been over seas yet, i work in an or and i'm on my feet for 8hrs straight. i would definitely reccomend anything dansko sells. i love my danskos more than anything, and i'm thinking about buying a 'clean' pair to wear in europe. danskos are approved by the american podiatriac association if that helps you out any.

I can't speak for what would be good for guys, but on a recent trip to Paris I took a pair of Rockports and one of Easy Spirits. Both worked well, considering my foot problems, and I did a LOT of walking.

I second the recommendatin for Merrill's. I bought a pair of black mesh ones for a trip to France last spring and they were fantastic! I wear them all the time at home, too. I find them as comfortable as slippers.

Merrells (with an &quot;e&quot; not an &quot;i&quot;) are the best in my opinion. Used to love Aerosoles but the sole on most are too thin for all day walking. Ecco's are ok but wear out too quickly for the cost. Mephistos don't work on my feet. Rieker, Born, Clark -- all comfortable, but Merrells are just the greatest. Neither my husband nor I ever want to put another shoe on our foot. I have 4 pair and he has 3, all different styles. They make clogs, hiking/workout shoes, sandals, mary janes...lots of choice.

I second (third?) the recommendation for Merrell or Vasque shoes. You can often find them for a great price at Sierra Trading Post (internet or catalog). They come in styles that look good even when going out at night with all the support of a good hiking shoe for walking in cobblestone streets.

I would suggest going to Nordstrom or The Walking Company or a similar store and trying various shoes to see which ones work best for you. Mephistos fit my feet perfectly, but they are not for everyone. Make sure that whatever shoes you get, they fit in the store - don't talk yourself into break-in time, it never works.
