Best Route to Barbarino Val d' Elsa
We are a family of 10 traveling from Rome to Barbarino Val d' Elsa. We have all day to get to our villa so I was looking for a scenic route with small villages and maybe a festival or antique market or vegetable market. Also, any suggestions for a casual lunch as we are 6 adults & 4 children. The date is July 30, Saturday. Thank you

Help Fodorites, someone must have traveled this way.

There are several options. I would exit A-1 at Orvieto--spend 2 hours there and then take S-2 north toward Siena, stopping in Bagno Vignoni for lunch. Then, the FS superstrada to the Barberino exit. Or, take A-1 all the way to the Siena exit, bypass Siena and exit for Monteriggioni--perhaps for lunch. Then, take the small roads to connect with S-168 and turn for San Gimignano. I hope you have a good map.

Bobthenavigator, Thank you so much. I have some maps that I picked up a couple years ago when in Italy. Do you know if there is a web site for Europe such as our mapquest?
|
Yes, only better.
Use viamichelin.com for both maps and routings. You can enter interim stops. Use San Quirico d' Orcia as your stop after Orvieto and you will get the right routing. |
Thanks

bobthenavigator, What a great web site. Sure has mapquest beat! Thanks

I just went to viamichelin.com and put in info that I know well and I didn't find this website to be very good - but maybe that was a fluke. Will play around with it more later to see what driving info comes up.
