Best route from St Remy de Provence to the Loire region??

My partner and I are spending 3 nights in St Remy de Provence from the 20th to the 23rd June. We have a car and would like to head to the Loire region, but are not keen on cities and would like a route other than having to stay in Lyon. We have to be in Paris on the 4th July. Any suggestions would be most appreciated.

Plaw welcome to Fodors. Just to be clear, since the Loire is about 1000km long which bit are you interested in?

We have since booked for 3 nights in Amboise from the 25th to 28th June and have 2 nights between leaving St Remy and Amboise to fill.Just would like a reccommendation on best drive route to Amboise and places to stay. We enjoy great food and laid back places - not into cities.

You could use www.viamichelin.com, plug in the departure and arrival points, and specify a scenic route.

Nimes, the bridge over Millau, Clermont (not to visit), Sancerre (stay over if you like)

Thank you. I had not looked at the option of driving through le Puy en Velay and Clermont so will now check it out.

Clermont is less interesting. Le Puy-en-Velay is definitely worth a stop. For an overnight splurge, there is le Pré bossu in Moudeyres, in the mountains east of le Puy.
