Best route from NY to Cinque Terre and Bologna

Hello fodorites...planning a trip for next June and am hoping to use mileage so need to start thinking about flights now. Would you say give that we want to visit Bologna (and maybe Genoa) that our best bet is to fly into Milan or do you have other suggestions (would like direct flights). Also happy to hear any other locations to visit in this area....we will probably have about 10 days and generally don't mind driving.

Thanks very much.

Yes, the same thing happened to me... Hit preview, but it just posted. But as far as your question goes, direct flights from NYC are usually to either Milan or Rome, so Milan is definitely your better choice.

You don't say what airline but Pisa has direct flights from JFK in the summertime on Delta. A good way to see the possibilities is to google for the destination airport website and look at arrivals. You could connect in Europe through many cities to either Bologna or Genoa with just one change.

Non-stop from the states you would need to look at Milan, Venice, Pisa and Rome. I rarely see good prices to Genoa, but do see them to Bologna at times. You could also look at Verona and Florence.
