Best Rome Pizza?

I am a pizza freak...looking for the
very best of each type. This is for
Rome only....no other towns allowed in
this review, ok?
Bk

Brian -

The best pizza I ever had in Rome was at the Loyola University Rome Center cafeteria. Sorry, not open to the general public, but if you can sneak in, I heard they still serve it on Wednesday for lunch.

For something different, there is a Pizza Rustica near the Ottaviano metro stop that serves pizza crust with Nutella on it - we referred to it as "chocolate pizza." They still had it when I was there 2 years ago.

Brian: You will not go wrong at Pizzaria Remo, buried in the heart of Testaccio. Huge, bustling locals' favorite. Just go to Testaccio and ask anyone. They'll direct you. Enjoy. Ciao.

Hi Brian. Pizzeria Ivo, in Trastevere, was mentioned to us by a number of people but, on the evening we went there, it was closed.

Based on recommendations in a couple guildebooks, we went to Pizzeria Ré (which this website, http://goitaly.about.com/library/weekly/aa063099.htm , calls "One of the very best pizza places in Rome") but weren't that crazy about it (but then, we weren't all that crazy about any pizza we had in Rome; the best pizza we had on our recent trip to Italy was in Amalfi.)

Here's another website, "L'Arte della Pizza" which mentions some pizza places in Rome (I notice she also mentions Pizzeria Ré): http://www.travel-italy.com/library/...lla_pizza.html

Hello. I know Brian asked for no other cities to be mentioned besides Rome, but when Capo mentioned he felt the best pizza was in the Amalfi region.... is there a big difference in the type of pizza between Rome and the Amalfi region? Just wondering. I'm going to Rome in March and plan to take a day trip via train to Naples and Pompeii. I will test it for myself, but just looking for some insight before hand. Thanks!

Sandi

May I have some anchovies on this thread, please????

Barb Dec 4th, 2001 11:41 AM

In October, I had a wonderful pizza with anchovies at a little cafe right on the piazza at the Pantheon. It was a little pricey, but I thought very worth it. Very thin, crispy crust, anchovies, capers, tomatoes, mozzarella, yum, my mouth is watering just thinking about it.

Ministero della Pizza in San Lorenzo (near the univeristy).

AMAZING PIZZA...a locals only joint. Definitely among the best in the city

There was another good pizza place in San Lorenzo, though of course my memory fails me. I think it was cheaper rather than better...it's on the main drag of San Lorenzo. It has cheap pizza advertised in large letters.

In trasarve right near the Plazza there's a place Cavecan(spelling might be off)they have a brick oven and the pizza is to die for. Try the caprice. You can easily enjoy two. We had the gnochi here also and it was the best in Roma
