Best restaurants in Zermat?
 

What are the best restaurants in Zermatt? 5 star ok, no star ok. Just want really good Swiss, regional food, raclette and rosti...................

I suppose I should say Italian is OK, that could be considered "regional"?

No Chinese, Mexican etc, I want European food!

Walliserkanne is very good, very traditional, very gracious service., nice ambiance.

The food is Swiss (including Raclette and Rösti) and some Italian dishes too.

Another vote for Walliserkane - we ate there three times during our last four day stay in Zermatt. They have a huge varied menu. I love their Rosti and Raclette and they also make good pizza.

The Spaghetti Factory in the Hotel Post has good pizza too.

Ah yes, the Walliserkanne is our favorite in Zermatt!

IMO the best restaurant in Zermatt for Valais cuisine is actually over in Saas Fee at the Fletshchorn Hotel, but absolutely worth the trip, and Saas Fee is a very cute little village which will be devoid of tourists for the most part, a nice change from Zermatt in summer. Good walking in the area too. For lunch in summer you can eat on the terrace, dinner should be quite light until late as well. See http://www.fletschhorn.ch/english/hotel/hotel.html. In Zermatt itself I would recommend going up to the
Rifflealp 2222m Hotel and trying one or more of their restaurants. It’s a fun trip up on the Gornegrat train (which you will want to take anyway IMO), you could also walk down to it from upper stations, or walk down into Zermatt from there. They have a nice casual outdoor terrace restaurant and a very good keller/stube restaurant with Swiss fare. Their outdoor terrace bar is good for lunch or sunset drinks too. See www.zermatt.ch/riffelalp. It’s the Rifflealp stop on the Gornegrat train. If you go for dinner, check last train times down the mountain.

Also for sure try to get to the little hamlet of Findelen and have a meal at Chez Vrony, without doubt my favourite place for lunch in Zermatt. This is reachable from the Sunnega train and then a short walk. Superb Matterhorn view from their outdoor terrace. See http://www.chezvrony.ch

In the Village, the Stockhorn is very good for grilled chicken and they have a cheese stubbli below. The Stockhorn has a Pizzeria across the street (Roma I believe) which is very good and has excellent pizza. Say hello to the waitress from Positano if you go. Le Gitan is excellent for grilled food. The Hotel Julen has a Stube below the hotel which is very atmospheric. Up on the mountain, Chez Vrony is wonderful as is Franz and Heini's restaurant a short hike away from Vrony.

Okay, I realize you just got back, so I'll try to be patient.

Yep, work will be 6 days a week catching up until it gets really hot, but will try to get it done soon.

Once you get home vacations seem like a dream, don't they?
