Best rent a car agency in Ireland?

Has anyone found a reliable car rental agency in Ireland? I seem to find only 3rd party brokers- is this normal? So far I've contacted Irish Rent a Car to pick up/drop off in Cork. Thanks for any suggestions. Justine

I've always had good luck with AutoEurope. They are a broker, but easy to work with. We dropped off a car in Cork, everything went fine.

Assuming that you are in the US.You might try O'Scannlain. They are a broker for Hertz in Washinghton state for Irish rentals.I used them last month for a 9 day rental with a pre-paid voucher that came to $197.00 dollars. In addition there are no airport charges whem you pick up the car.

Thanks LLC and Lovejoy. I actually live in Paris but I'm booking over the internet, so I shall check out AutoEurope. And I'll let you know how the trip went as it will be my first time in Cork and the Southwest. Justine

If you read this forum on a regular basis you will know that car rental is the most trying issue dicussed. You can drive yourself crazy trying to find the best price and then you have to factor in insurance, gas and service. You are on the right track buy asking reliable. I have used a number of agencies and now use Dooley each year. Not the cheapist, althought close, but I have had good service when needed. I have used the other big companies and I am sure they also provide good service. I want to know that if I need it on a Sat. night out on the Mizen Peninsula I can get a person on the phone and the 24 hour service they all brag about.

Just got back and I used Dooley for our 10-day rental. Had an almost brand new ford focus (1500 km on it). The car was great and no complaints about the service. The cost came close to $450. including the airport tax which I prepaid here. (I bought the extra insurance (my mastercard covered CDW) and second driver as well.) I'd use them again. By the way, if you mention Pat Preston's site they will give you 10% off.

carolsc,

what extra insurance are you referring to? I thought if you bought any extra insurance, it means that Master card no longer covers your CDW?

4greenfields: I was very happy with Dan Dooley last month. Do mention Pat Preston for the 10 percent discount. Good luck.

Another vote for Dan Dooley. We booked through AutoEurope last time. They were out of cars our size so they moved us to Dan Dooley anyway. Dan Dooley has always been fast, friendly, had great newer cars and never gave us any flack over the condition of the car when we returned. :)
