Best Place to Visit in Dordogne by Public Transportation
I am thinking about a short trip from Paris to somewhere in Dordogne region.
I know that you definitely need a car to visit the place but I stupidly did not bring my driver's licence so cannot hire a car. I am trying to find a place that can be reached by public transportation that is worth visiting. Can anyone please recommend a place? My initial thought is Bergerac and maybe add St.Emillion to it. I want to visit Sarlat but this seems too complicated by train? Any place else that would be nice for a 3 day visit? Please advise. Thank you! |
Perigueux. From there you might be able to take a bus to Sarlat too.
I'm not a fan of Bergerac - and St Emillion is not in the Dordogne. Stu Dudley |
Bergerac is a bore. I agree that Périgueux would be the logical choice, though it's a big city and you won't get the feel of the beautiful countryside there, but maybe there's a bus to Sarlat. Sarlat is, I believe, on the same train line that goes to Bergerac, but I think you need to get off in Souillac and take a bus these days.

Périgueux is best because it offers transportation to various locations in the Dordogne, has an interesting old town, a nice Wednesday and Saturday market, and an interesting museum of old Roman villa ruins.
