best place to stay in the Algarve and yet avoid the crowds

any recommendations of favorite algarve towns that aren't overrun by tourists in June. we are more interested in history (Henry the Navigator) and natural beauty than casinos or jet setting. thanks

To avoid crowds you have to head west of Pria de Rocha area. There are small town as you head west from there. Realize that your choice of accommodations will be more limited but you will find it quieter and more natural. You might like Salema. If you have a car drive a bit up the western Algarve coast stopping at the small towns as you go.

Another thought. July and August are the most heavily tourists months so you may not find it as overrun as you are thinking.

Ditto. June is pre-season. In July you won't find a bed available.

June is quiet. PDR or Alvor is not busy at all.

We went to Benagil in June---fantastic! Here's a review on Trip Advisor I wrote about where we stayed - http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/ShowUse...t_Algarve.html

We loved it so much that we're going back. Benagil is in an ideal location, with easy access to the 'hotspots' if that's what you're after, but peaceful and stunningly beautiful...what's not to like.
