Best place to drop car rental in split
 

We are renting a car in Zagreb and going to Plitvice Lakes before dropping the car in Split and pick up another 4 days later after we get off ferry from Hvar.
Where is the easiest place to drop a car in Split? It seems the city center is quite hectic to drive in. Should we drop at the airport and take a cab in?
Where should we pick up after we get off the ferry from Hvar? We had thought about just keeping the car but neither of our hotels in Split or Hvar have parking and its 40.00 a day to park and the parking lots are not near our hotels.
