Best place for lunch - Tallinn

There will be 6 of us and we'd like a good leisurly lunch - with some local colour. Where do you suggest? Reservations needed? And what Estonian specialties do you suggest? Any links where we can read up on the local cuisine?

A friend of mine who came back from the Baltic States raved about Tallinn, how friendly the people were, the historical sites, but particularly, the inexpensiveness of the food and drink, for being part of Europe. He liked a restaurant called "Peppersack" (don't know where it is) but he advises he had no bad meals in Tallinn. Please do post back on your trip when you return, as I'm interested in going here myself!

Thanks for the reply and the name. Peppersack is now part of my Tallinn file! I'll be sure and post back, but we don't leave until the last of August. (such a long time to wait)

Peppersack is in the Old Town at the beginning of Viru Street.
Viru Street is the most commercial street in the Old Town.
Just opposite side- there is Olde hansa even more wellknown Medieval restaurant.
The Old Town is plenty of restaurants, cafees. There are some national style restaurants, restaurants with international kitchen, Indian, Russian, Chinese etc restaurants.
Booking is required for small places, Peppersack is large and Olde hansa is large too.

There are many good restaurants in Tallinn, and new ones pop up almost every week (at least it feels like it). Must lamm has great mushroom soup. If you want to try bear Eestitall serves it.
