I was just on the Gimmelwald site and they have a FABULOUS and large slide show of the area. Thought you might enjoy them.

Hello again. I've been doing lots of research and looking at topographical maps and asking other friends who have visited. Right now we are leaning toward Grindelwald as our base in the Oberland area. I know it will not be as quiet and peaceful as Wengen, but I think it might be better for us.
We think that we will arrive in Zurich on Saturday and travel straight to Grindelwald. We'll stay there through Thursday and then head to Luzern. We'll then fly back home from Zurich on Sunday.
I know that many apartments only allow stays of 1 week. Our trip will be the last week in May. Can anyone recommend a good self-catering 2 bedroom apartment in Grindelwald that is easy walking distance from the main town that is not too expensive and that doesn't require a 1 week stay?
We also need recommendations for similar accomodations in Luzern if possible.
Thanks for the help!

> Mürren is on the west side of the valley and looks across the valley to the Jungfrau massif to the east. I can imagine a sunset shot there being spectacular.
I tend to agree with Enzian saying above. The first time I stayed one night in Mürren about 20 years ago and was quite impressed by the sunset view of Jungfrau massif. Since then I stayed in Grindelwald, Wengen and returned to Mürren too a few times. I alway liked Mürren the best as far as the sunset is concerned. Gimmelwald is the same location but a bit lower altitude than Mürren.

Hi STW,
I stayed in Murren in '07 and hiked on both sides of the valley. I would definitely recommend (for photography) the views toward the Eiger from above Mannlichen station. (see photo link below). You get there by taking a gondola (cable car) up from Wengen.
Murren and Gimmelwald are well worth visiting -- and don't miss the Shilthorn station above Murren.
Here is a link to a professional photographer's photos, that continue to inspire me to return to the region. I returned to Switzerland last summer to see Guarda and Soglio in the Engadine region.
