Best Place for a Home Away from Home
 

I recently came across this list that I thought might be of interest to many of you. Modern Maturity magazine (which is published by AARP - American Association of Retired Persons) put together a list of the top 15 places around the world for a home away from home. Their criteria were weather, cost of living, affordable housing, cultural problems, health care, leisure activities, pollution, crime rate, transportation, political stability, health hazards and access to technology. <BR> <BR>Based on those criteria, here's what they came up with: <BR>1. Costa del Sol, Spain <BR>2. Cinque Terre, Italy <BR>3. Provence, France <BR>4. Bouquete, Panama <BR>5. St. Vincent and the Grenadines <BR>6. County Clare, Ireland <BR>7. Nong Khai, Thailand <BR>8. Crete, Greece <BR>9. Ambergris Caye, Belize <BR>10. Tunis, Tunisia <BR>11. Algarve, Portugal <BR>12. Cayman Islands <BR>13. San Miguel de Allende, Mexico <BR>14. Pafos, Cyprus <BR>15. Hi Meredith! I am saving as well (and dreaming!!) Our rand is so weak, that I cannot afford Provence - too expensive. I refused to give up, and then discovered the Charente and Auvergne regions in France - more Central, and towards the West - still charming and beautifull - and much cheaper than Provence! But, I do believe in dreams...

Bit surprised to see Tunis on the list. <BR>Perhaps my views are tarnished by memories of being hassled by old men as a 15 year old girl.

I am very surprised as well to see Tunis on this list. To me, it is a very polluted town (a lot of traffic), very hot in summer, would not want to go to a hospital there, do not think it is that stable politically and think as a non muslim one would face a lot of problems there. <BR>Costa del Sol would be fine for me... if I had the money you need to live there.

Somebody at AARP must have slipped a gear. Having traveled the world...and seen most of the places they named on this list...I have come to one conclusion: there is no place like home.
