Best parisian ice cream
I would like to suggest you that the best ice cream in Paris is "Amorino": this is the typical italian ice cream, much more better than the so reputated Berthillon.
Try it at 4 rue Buci on the 6? arrondissement or on the saint louis island at 47 rue saint louis en l'ile. bye wuberto |

How nice of you to use your first and only post to advertise Amorino. What disturbs me about this post is that I think that Amorino's gelato is as good as any in Italy so that I can't get sufficiently riled up to report you. |

I believe you and really don't think an ice cream shop would advertise this way (apt. rentals or tours or agencies are about the only ones who advertise on this board).
I love ice cream but am fairly easily pleased, I guess -- most ice cream tastes pretty good to me unless it's like the cheap US supermarket brands filled with air or corn syrup. I like Berthillon, but don't go out of my way to buy it and wouldn't wait in line. Not being a gelato expert (and never having it in Italy), I do have a question to wuberto, though (or anyone who has an opinion) -- you say Italian gelato is superior to French ice cream. In what way? What is it about gelato that is special in comparison to the way other countries make ice cream in terms of ingredients or process? |
Typical American ice cream - even the better stuff - is very heavy on the butterfat and fairly light on the flavor. Good gelato has flavors that are much more dense and come in a much more interesting variety. For instance each fruit flavor tastes just like the specific fruit - not just a generic sort of "fuity" flavor. They also have much less fat - almost, but not quite, like our ice milk.

I've tried them both and wouldn't say no to either! I prefer Berthillon, but it may be the flavors as much as anything. |

Whatever the case, I've not had to chance to taste it and might just bite the bait (since there has been no bad remarks about it) to make my way down and give it a try when I'm in Paris. |

I confess that I have never been overly enamored with Berthillon ice cream-it's good-I rather like the location though, it's a nice place to sit outside and people-watch. I definitely agree with NyTrav.'s post on Amer. ice cream and gelato -partic. about the intense flavor of berry gelati. Of course, everyone knows that the best gelato is made in Florence- and that it comes from Vivoli's (I jest- there are a few others in Florence that give Vivoli's a definite run for its money!) but it is hard to beat their blackberry gelato- molto delizioso!

Amorino now has 6 locations for their gelato (at least 6 listed on their business card) in Paris, even though only 3 are listed on their website.
There are two locations in the 4th, two in the 6th, one in the 9th, and one in the 14th. Yum. |
