Yes, sandi, I think the rooms are all a bit different. Next time I want the room your parents had!

Hi oberost, I've seen your recommendations of the Pas de Calais many times (as well as Ste. Beuve). May I ask which room category you had at Pas de Calais? The suite looks nice but it's pretty expensive. Thanks.

The Pas de Calais does look very--is it right on the bd. St-Germain? The website's map makes it seem as though it is.

Hotel Henri IV provided answer to question about price for wifi. Now I realize how important it is to ask about the details- they want 5 euros for 30 minutes, 10 euros for 60 minutes and 25 euros for 24 hours! Compared to US prices for comparable service it is a ridiculous price.
So... I have sent off a letter to Hotel de Fleurie, which says it's wifi is free with room charge to see what they can offer me. Any comments about the Fleurie- I know it's not ranked nearly as high as Henri IV but I can't stand feeling like I am being taken advantage of.

sharkmom, I know. It was that feeling of being overcharged that made us decide to use the nearby internet cafe, even though I had my wifi-equipped computer with me. We were disappointed at the high fees the Henri IV was charging, but that was the ONLY thing we were disappointed in. And to be fair, I think this wifi service is contracted out to the online company, so the fees are set by them, not the hotel. I've encountered this elsewhere as well, and it seems it's always a lot higher when it's structured this way. I suppose the provider wants to make a profit and the hotel gets some percentage, which drives the price up.

Pas des Calais in NOT right on the blvd St Germain but not very far off it and around the corner from Deux Magott, etc ... near Metro stop. Quiet street. If you stay there try Claude SainLouis for dinner. It's not touristy at 27 rue du Dragon- short walk from hotel. Desk can direct you. Also nearby (across blvd) is le Relais de l'Entrecote (steaks & frits).

Oberost, I'm familiar with the Pas de Calais's location. It's the room that I'm more interested in knowing about. What type of room did you reserve? Thanks.

I ate at a GREAT Italian restaurant on rue de Dragon.

The latest update is that the difference in price between the Hotel Fleurie and Henri IV is the amount of a 24 hour access to the internet. I am going to follow Marilyn's lead and hope that the internet cafe around the corner will do the trick. If it doesn't it will be the same as the price at the Fleurie. BTW the Muguet looks quite nice and very reasonable but I think I'll stick with the location the Henri IV. Thanks for the suggestion, kpilling.

sharkmom, here's a handy tip for that internet cafe. They don't have US keyboards, but some of the computer monitors have an icon on the lower right corner with "FR" in it. You click on it and it will change to "EN." The keyboard is then "wired" like a US keyboard, so if you can touch type, life has just gotten a whole lot easier. (If you're a hunt&peck typist, you're out of luck.)

There are lots of computers -- no waiting. Can't wait to hear how you like the Henri IV.
