Best Paris - iphone Apps

I am looking for recommendations for iphone apps that people have found fun or useful while traveling in Paris. I have downloaded Rick Steves Audio Europe and Fodor's Travel Guide. Thanks in advance for your input. :)

I found the Paris2Go app to be very helpful, specifically the map - it's downloaded to your phone, so no data required, and the GPS will find you on it.

I Paris metro map is very helpful. You can view a map of the entire system as well as plan a trip from point A to B with suggestions for which lines and transfers to use. Also provides system service alerts which we found to be helpful when there s a transit strike.

This is the metro app I used from Presslite for 99 cents:

I like the suggestions for the Paris2Go app and the Metro maps. Does anyone have any other suggestions? I found the below on another forum but its about two years old. Anyone use any of these and have an opinion?

-- "Collins Pro French-English Translation Dictionary"
-- "Shazam" Music App
-- "Around Me" Tells you what services like banks, restaurants, etc. that are around you.

I use Shazam, but I don't really think it has anything to do with Paris! It listens to whatever recorded music is being played (car stereo, store PA, whatever) and tells you what song it is. You have to be connected to data to use it, via wifi or 3G.

Patricia Wells has an app for her "Food Lovers Guide to Paris". it has restaurant, cafe, patisserie, and all sorts of food recommendations as well as a food glossary, to help with menu recommendations.

TimeOut has a free Paris app.

Do those metro apps also include bus routes? I'd really like an app with both, train and bus on it.

Hi China Cat - Yes

The presselite "Paris Metro" link I included above has all three included: 1) Metro 2) RER and 3) Bus

thanks davispeets! I will definitely be getting that one from the app store.

FYI - I looked again at my app - and while the bus line routes and numbers are there -it looks like there is another "in app" 99 cent purchase to get full bus line info intergrated into the app.

I've had luck with "Escargo" which helps translate menu items from French to English. The metro map in Fodor's guide is really all you need IF you know how to read a subway map. Busses are a different problem though, so I'll check out the apps that include busses. Thanks

http://www.spottedbylocals.com/paris/ has an app for iPhone & Android with unique insider tips by locals. Kept up-to-date. Euro 3.99 per city for full version, but free trial also available.

Just got back from Paris. I very highly recommend leaving your IPhone in your hotel safe. There currently is a highly mobilzed force of teen gypsies distributed all over tourist areas and subway exits scanning pockets for IPhones and pulling lots of other scams. It is a huge problem. Paris police have turned their backs on the problem. Read the other threads on the subject for recent personal experiences. Maybe take a cheap IPOD Touch instead.

Here is a list of fun apps you could use while traveling in Paris: http://www.appfavour.com/search/?key=paris Traveling in Paris is an adventure and offers many opportunities to learn about Parisian life and their cultures. :)

Javafan, i live in Paris and never was robbed. You just have to pay attention : don't use your phone in crowded metro stations or areas. Put it deep in your pocket and put you hands over it when you are entering subway or in queues.

For the best apps in Paris, i would recommend Paris 2GO, Metro Paris Subway but also Hidden Paris, a nice one to discover interesting places.

Check this list of iPhone apps for Paris, i think it will be useful for you :

Paris-ci is not only a metro map and trip planner but will also tell you which car to ride in and which exit to use for a specific destination...

I highly recommend Paris By App it is a great app with a lot of information and a nice map with a lot of entertainment places!
