best Paris hotel locations?
I know that this has been asked and answered before but I wanted to be a little more specific. We are looking for 4* hotels with a price range up to $400 which s/b easy however we are not sure which area to look at. Primary concerns are dining and the ability to walk around at night. Your suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

The 4* hotel criteria limits it pretty much right off the top, as many areas don't even have 4* hotels in Paris, and some only have a couple (like the 7th).
I'm afraid I can't be any more specific than what you already know, probably, as your criteria are nonspecific. Being able to dine and walk around at night pretty much covers about anywhere there are 4* hotels (but out on the edges or burbs, so I won't name them). So, I'd say you could find that in any arrondisement from 1 and 4-8 and 16. I think there are a couple 4* hotels in the 11 or 14, also, but not many or more business hotels (as in the 14th), so I'd leave them out of the mix. Okay, the Hilton near the Tower is really in the 15th by its address, also, although most people think of it as the 7th. There aren't as many 4* hotels in the 5th, either, or in the 4th, but you can find a few. |

Why not choose 3 hotels and then ask which would be preferred? You certainly aren't going to be in a seedy neighborhood with a 4*. ((I)) |
Just look for hotels in the single-digit arrondissements. If you check www.venere.com, it shows the location of hotels on a city map. Otherwise, if you look at the "zip code" of the hotel address, usually 750XX, the XX is the arrondissement.

It always amuses me to mention the 4-star www.kubehotel.com, located in one of the seediest areas of Paris (about half a block from my apartment!). It attracts monied folk looking for something really different, especially its ice bar (made entirely out of ice, including the glasses you drink out of). But it is just a tad over your $400 budget.

Well then you'll want and like the Relais Christine-the Rue Christine could not be a prettier, more charming street- during the day and at night-and the Relais C could not have more curb appeal-with its begonia-filled flower boxes spilling out over the windows in front. Excellent dining both across the street and in the restaurant just to the side of it. Of course you're in the St. Germain de Pres area-so it's perfect for walking around at night, going to various brasserie, walking to the Louvre.
Make sure and make reservations for "Les Ombres" the rooftop restaurant at Quai Branly for those stunning views of the Eiffel Tower at night. |

May I suggest the Hotel Pont Royal at 7 rue de Montalembert in the 7th: http://www.hotel-pont-royal.com/ The hotel is about one block from Blvd. St. Germain and a few blocks from the Louvre; in other words, a great location. We stayed there about a year and a half ago; the room was luxurious and the staff was terrific. Nice bar in the lobby and adjacent to Joel Robuchon's L'Atelier restaurant if you like that sort of thing. We found the food to be great but the setting a bit unconventional. The hotel is right on the crossroads of about 3 bus lines so public transport is convenient. A great stay. Oh yes, it's denominated a 4 star. Good luck. Gradyghost |
We've stayed twice at the Pont Royal and really like the neighborhood... walking distance to so much (and we are old geezers with physical limitations.) Also liked Robuchon's rest. (twice).. and they do room service too (best club sandwich I've ever had.... don't ask price) But if you consider the Pont Royal get a quote that includes breakfast. Otherwise it's ridiculous. (Like all hotel breakfast charges in top hotels.)

joeyrm7 - I just love the look (inside and out) of the Little Palace Hotel, 4 rue Salomon de Caus, 75003. Metro: Reaumur Sebastapol. It's a very very nice three star.
Opposite the beautiful hotel is the little park Square Emile Chautemps with lovely trees. You have the wide Boulevard Sebastapol on the corner leading down to the Pompidou centre, Forum des Halles and all the dozens of pedestrianised streets including the famous Montorgueil. Hundreds of people roaming around night and day eating at the hundreds of bistros & cafes. The choice is huge. You can take a wander around the streets of Paris on PagesJaunes Les Photos de villes. |

Nice choice of hotel - but for me too far down the "quiet" end of Blvd.St.Germain. For dining ability and walking around at night in that area I would have a look at Hotel Madison, 143 Blvd.St.Germain, opp. St. Germain-des-Pres and the famous Deux Margots and Cafe des Flores.
Far busier and exciting (in my opinion). |
