Best of Pisa
What would everyone recommend to do in Pisa for a day? Of course, I already know about the Leaning Tower and the Cathedral. Also, what are some of your favorite restaurants?
Thanks! |
Rubio, Lots of people will tell you that Pisa is not worth more than an hour, and even that's so you can "check the box". I disagree. I recommend that you walk from the train station to the Piazza di Miracoli and take a good look at the charming town itself. It's a University town and outside of the tower area there are lots of charms to be found.

From Stu
Rubiop i spent three months working in Pisa and I think that you should walk from the Station up to teh leaning tower and enjoy the main walk through. A walk along the Arno cud be gud and some little side streets, however I wud depending on time get yourself to teh walled town of Lucca very close 20 minutes way by bus i think , train. Do that because it is totally cool |
We spent the full day and a night in Pisa and really enjoyed it. We stayed at the Hotel Victoria and they sent us to a restaurant called The Grotto where they didn't speak a word of English (the hotel had called them and asked them to look out for us, which they did). It was wonderful. It's near the center of town; that's all I can tell you. We also had a really good lunch at the very popular Da Bruno, which was convenient to the Duomo and the Tower. While the area around the tower was as touristy as Italy can get, the rest of the city was about as UNtouristy as you can get in Italy -- what a contrast.

Exactly, Patrick! That's what I failed to say. I don't think I saw another tourist in the rest of Pisa. And that's where I learned to park my bike using a pedal on the curb. :-)

We stayed overnight in Pisa last March in order to catch an extremely early flight the next morning, and we lucked into one of the best meals we had in Italy. The restaurant is L'Antico Vicoletto, at Vicolo del Tinti 15, telephone 050-9711450 (we brought back cards). We first tried to get into two restaurants listed in guidebooks, but we were trying to eat early and they hadn't opened. Our expectations at this place were fairly low, but the food, service (young friendly waiter from Croatia) and wine were all wonderful. The restaurant is located on a street only one block long, I believe, between the river and the tower. We'll go back.
