Have enjoyed mussels at Leon de Bruxelles in Paris. Since it's a chain (and I'm not usually keen on chains), maybe there is one is Bruxelles? You can find them on the net.

Which got me to thinking, as they only serve mussels (and spaghetti or hot dog for kids menu), what do they do in the "off" mussel months???

For "casual" mussels, I like Leon's too, and the one near the Grand'Place is pretty good (the frites are tasty, too)--we always get the mussels topped with escargot and melted cheese (not for purists!). For a less touristy spot, we like Brasserie Georges on the corners of Ave. Winston Churchill and Chaussee de Waterloo in the Uccle neighborhood. Feels like a Paris bistro inside; very popular with the locals and diplomats.

I agree with BTilke, Brasserie Georges is good. But the best place, IMO is Moby Dick in Parvis St. Pierre in Uccle near the Maison Communale. It is certainly off the beaten tourist track but worth seeking out.

You can eat mussels almost year round. From September till April is mussel season but restaurant owners usually cannot wait until September and serve mussels earlier. The mussels that are served between May and August are not the normally cultivated mussels. They aren't bad but a real mussel-connoisseur will not eat them.
