May to mid month June and September,Oct are good months to travel inland. Beach holiday is better in July and August.
The best probably mid May to mid june, long days and the barbars have not invaded jet.

Maizie: There are different climate zones in Spain. To avoid heat in the south, go as early in June as you are able and even then, prepare for some heat. That is the short answer but we can provide more details if you tell us your destinations. In general, early June would be an excellent time to visit Spain, but to tell you the truth, there is no time of the year that is a bad time for that amazing country.

I usually say June and September. But with the climate changes nowadays it's difficult to say Anyway, it depends on what part of Spain do you want to visit. The north is not too hot in summer, while May-June is really nice in Andalucia.

Thanks for your help so far. We are thinking of arriving in Madrid on the 2nd of June , then traveling south..Toledo, Valencia, Seville.on to Barcelona, Bilbao, back to Madrid for our trip home to NYC.We are very interested in Art and history..not the beaches, nor the scenery which we saw about 40 years ago on another trip.We will be traveling by public transportation. As we have not started to plan any specifics, any thoughts you may have will be greatly appreciated. Oh, yes, we like to take a leisurely morning coffee, but we could push ourselves a little. Thanks again.

You culdn;t PAY ME to go to Spainin July or August. We were in the south in late April and it was in the 80s during the day. Everyone was using the hotel pools. And by the time we got to Madrid in the early days of May is was bout 95 degrees.
If your time is your own I would do April or October - possibly May. Certainly nothing in the summer (Seville is routinely over 100).
