Hi all,
After three weeks of expensive (and not very good) hotel breakfasts, I got up early and went to a farmer's market in Helsinki.
There was a woman there who made breakfast for the farmers as they set up their stalls.
A thick slab of still-warm bread with butter, topped with cheese, tomato and ham - all fresh from the farm. Heaven!

I'd have to say it's a toss:
Franceinner in a farmhouse (really a glass and wood house) about 1 1/2 hours outside of Paris near the hiking trail. We spent the day with friends who cooked a meal that seemed to go on and on. Veal Blanquette,a rouqfort souffle, a green salad and baked apples for dessert. I might add lots of wine without labels that came from the neighbors and cigarettes(galoises of course). We had taken a walk along the hiking trail in the late afternoon. There were still patches of snow on the ground..It all just worked.
And Italy..The Osteria Badia en Passignano-Badia en Passignano(Tuscay)..a steak that still haunts me
and gnocchetti..tiny pillows napped in a cream sauce with shaved fresh porcini mushrooms.
And..my very first lemon crepe on the streets of Paris.

The best European meal I ever had was at the Mas de Bournissac in its "La Maison" outdoors, dining room. We dined outdoors. Meal began with chilled eggplant soup flavored with thyme and other herbs, thin filettes of duck (cannette), delicious chicken, marvelous vegetables, a salad made with bulgar grain and preserved lemons. A lovely Rose supported this splendid fare. Magnifique.
Mas de Bournissac, an auberge, is near Noves/St. Remy-de-Provence in Provence.

A farmhouse dinner at Malvernia in Umbria. It was a cool rainy evening, and 3 other couples and us sat at a large table by the huge fireplace where many of the courses were prepared. It was an unforgettable experience, 3 hours of great food, unlimited wine, and good conversation.

Perphas the meal that always bring fond memories and a smile in my face was in a park in Paris.. It was our last night there( my daughter was with me).. we were tired of restaurant's food, we bought some ham and cheese baguettes, 2 delicious strawberry tarts and 2 beers, strange because i am not a beer drinker. We took our food in the nearest Park, and while we were enjoying our simple fare, the Parisien walking by kept saying on Appetit!!!We enjoyed it so much that even now, after many years we talk about it...
