Best Masseria in Puglia
 

Hi, I am wanting some information on some of the best Masserias in Puglia or Basilicata for July this year. I am looking at staying somewhere around Fasano, Ostuni, Ceglie Messapica, Martina Franca (Valle d'Itria) or in Basilicata.
I have done some research on Masseria Cervarolo and Montenapoleone, but both have mixed reviews on tripadvisor.
Masseria Il Frantoio seems nice, but I don't think it has a pool.
Palazzo Margherita looks amazing, but is very expensive.
Are there any other good ones I'm missing.

How do you define 'best'? Does it need to be close to a town, have a restaurant, pool etc?

"Best" is hard. You need to be more specific.

For instance if you are into orienteering then Masseria Provenzani http://www.masseriaprovenzani.com/masseria-en.php is the best with a large (very large) room given over to details and contacts with the local club, while prices are very reasonable as it really a wealthy family's base who rent it out to keep their costs under control.

So, you need to know
1) Is having English important to you
2) Do you need access to other shops and restaurants
3) How big a pool/ heated
4) Security, is it required
5) How much to pay
6) Access to farm (animals fresh fruit/veg/wine etc) to cut food miles
7) nearby visits.

I think I mean which is the nicest experience. It doesn't matter if they don't speak English. I have a car, so it doesn't have to be too close to shops. It would help if it has a pool.

I like the look of Borgo Ignazia (it's more a hotel), but that is too expensive.

I liked the look of Il Frantoio, but I don't think it has a pool.

It would be nice if the owners of the masseria are nice.

I would love to hear of anyone's personal experiences staying at some masserias in Puglia.

Like I said above, I would definitely recommend the place we stayed. The link is above. It was a few minute drive from Mesagne, had a pool and a nice breakfast and dinner. There are a few restaurants a few minutes drive away...including a great pizza place.

Check Masseria Spetterrata in Montalbano di Fasano. Very nice masseria with excellent restaurant, and pool. Very friendly owner and staff. The rooms of the masseria overlook the Valle d'Itria.

In Basilicata, I warmly recommend Antico Convicino Rooms & Suites in the Sassi Caveoso in Matera. Really special and wonderful.

We stayed at Masseria Cervarolo in October of 2014 and loved it. The pool is really lovely and a great place to hang out and relax; they have a snack bar there for drinks and snacks. My only regret is that we didn't spend more time just hanging out there.

The owners and staff were all friendly and helpful and English was definitely spoken by those who worked in the office as they helped us book a couple of things.
Breakfast is included and was good and we chose to have a few dinners there as well, also very good. They had a free wine tasting night with a local young sommelier and wines from the area, that was a fun night. They also offered cooking classes which we didn't do.

Our trullo room was very clean, and while decorated in a very simple style, had everything we needed.
From the Masseria we did a lot of day trips, there are many nearby towns.

thanks for the advice. I have looked at a few and they are nice. I just looked at Torre Maizza in Fasano. It's gorgeous but too expensive, unfortunately! I feel that the really amazing masserias are very expensive and the less expensive ones seem to have mixed reviews.
