Best map of Paris to buy in Paris?
Going through all my stuff and I see that my good Paris map is missing (!). I bought it in Paris a long time ago when I coouldn't find any of the little streets. Which map should I try to buy this time? Thanks!

If you don't have a PocketPC you can load with highly detailed (and free) street maps, I like the Editions leConte Paris par Arrondissement that my host family bought for me in 1963. I see that most of the cab drivers carry them.
It's a pocket sized hardback or paperback with each arrondissement on one page, showing every street, down to the tiny la Rue du Chat Qui Pêche (possibly the smallest street in Paris).
Besides the map pages, there are hundreds of pages of street indices that will guide you to any sight, site, or cite in town.

No need to purchase in Paris (unless you really want to).
I quite like The Rough Guide Map:
1:13,000 and 1:8600 (central city)
shows sights, shops, restaurants, bars, pedestrianized streets, viewpoints, taxi ranks, transportation lines, tourist information locations, post offices, notable buildings -- in short, everything a visitor might like to locate.
It's durable and waterproof.
ISBN 1-84353-039-2
Published by Rough Guides, distributed by The Penguin Group.
USA $8.95, Canada $13.50, UK £4.99

Robespierre, I thought we were carrying around an antique: Cartes Taride's 1974 edition of Paris par Arrondissement. You've got us beat by a decade.
We've used ours on every trip through Paris, including a visit there a few weeks ago.

I love my Paris Pratique par arrondissement, 2000 edition. Friends bought a 2004 edition in Paris last fall. You can pick one up at any tabac. It is small and so handy and easy to read. I think you can also order it on the internet.

I have a very good bus map book, also, although it doesn't say indispensible on it, it is "Guide des Autobus Parisiens" by Leconte. It is a lot more convenient than the large Paris busmap because it's just a small pocketbook of route maps.
There are so many variations on the typical Paris maps by arrondisement that I think it is best to just look at them and choose the one that appeals to you. If you are going to buy it in Paris, anyway, that seems the best idea. Visually or in other ways, you just may prefer one publisher over another. I don't particularly like the Middleditch others do, for example, nor Michelin. It's real easy to just buy a very small map book of arrondisements in Paris, though.
