There are major differences between 4 and 5 star properties in Paris. Pavillon de la Reine, (although one of my favorites) is not in the same league as the 5 star properties being discussed. Neither is the Warwick. My view is that the Four Seasons is the best choice. The Meurice is a great hotel but for us not a good location as you are in the middle of tourist central right outside your door. If you are looking for a real sleeper, beautiful and large rooms, old world Parisian style, great service, and great location, try the Vernet. It is 4 star but really worth considering, as long as you get their best room

There are NO 5-star properties in Paris. Period. If a hotel calls itself a 5* that's usually a chain or other designation, not one by the Paris tourist agency that assigns the city's star ratings.

For class, character and luxury, the Hotel Esprit Saint-Germain in the 6th, a member of "The Crown Collection", is hard to beat. Check out their web page and decide for yourself.
