What is the best vacation destination in europe?

Depends what kind of vacation you like!

Paris is great, but I love Madeira.

Sorry, dassi, but it is a very exclusive resort and if I were to reveal its name and location I wouldn't be allowed in again.

Well, this place would do, I guess - - http://www.villailpoggiolino.it/p/eng/index.html# - - it's about $16,000 for a week, I think.

Two week minimum, most likely in summer.

What do you want? Chic city with a dresscode (as if they exist, all cities are dressed down)? Ocean resort? Uber urban industrial chic?

I love the Costa Smeralda, the ultimate Italian island experience; Neapolitan riviera for classical beauty; Tenerife - Hotel Botanico in Puerto de la Cruz is a nice retreat at anytime of year if I fancy an impromptu break; the Isle of Man for unpretentious natural beauty, where I have a second home; Corsica which is still relatively untouristy; Paris, the name speaks for itself.

Message: Some friends and I are interested in booking a vacation to Europe for one week this summer. We are in our twenties and want to go someplace exciting and beautiful. Between the five of us we have been to several places in Europe (including England, France, Holland, Italy, Switzerland), and we do not want to repeat any of these destinations. Does anybody have any suggestions of vacation destinations in Europe? Some of the countires we are looking into are: Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Scotland, Sweden, and Denmark. Thanks.

Let me clarify: My firends are looking for a fun place to vacation. We are not beach/resort types. We generally like bigger cities with lots to do in the way of culture, museums etc.

Berlin

London, Paris, Rome, Berlin, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Vienna, Prague, Timbuktu.

Well, if you exclude "England, France, Holland, Italy, Switzerland"... and want to look at "Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Scotland, Sweden, and Denmark"....

Now I've not yet been to Scandinavia or Portugal or Ireland. I've heard nice things about Lisbon though.

I'd agree with a previous poster that you should consider Berlin -- it seems to be one of these places that's very much in the spotlight these days.

I like Barcelona when I was there -- I prefer this to Berlin, in fact.

It's kind of hard to answer this question, Dassi. It's sort of like going to a music discussion board and asking, "what's the best rock album?" If you're new to rock music, I would say start with the basics, like the Rolling Stones. But it may well turn out that you don't like the Stones at all.

So, with that in mind, if you want to know what the "Rolling Stones" of European travel would be...I'd say go to Paris or Venice.

(And, if someone has been intrigued by my tortured analogy, my top Stones recommendations are <i>Sticky Fingers, Let It Bleed, and Exile on Main Street</i>.)

STOCKHOLM....by far my favorite city in Europe. Its magical, clean, green, water everywhere, amazing architecture.
I just need to have the dollar climb a bit more to enjoy it again.

I'd stay away from France unless you've never been to Paris, in which case, a day or two there at the most!

Then the goodies, London, Florence, Barcelona, Amsterdam (All are youthful and full of vitality). Rome for the art, Vatican city and ancient ruins but not altogether pleasant experience otherwise. I'd steer clear of Venice (big diappointment). Take the train everywhere and have a blast!

In fact, it adds to all the more reason to taking this advice with a HUGE grain of salt...

The reasons for taking a train on a route of more than four hours are disappearing with each passing day in Europe. Flying - - at least for this decade - - is the bargain mode of travel, except for shorter distances.
