best in europe
What is the best vacation destination in europe?
|
Depends what kind of vacation you like!
Paris is great, but I love Madeira. |
Sorry, dassi, but it is a very exclusive resort and if I were to reveal its name and location I wouldn't be allowed in again.
|
Well, this place would do, I guess - - http://www.villailpoggiolino.it/p/eng/index.html# - - it's about $16,000 for a week, I think.
Two week minimum, most likely in summer. Best wishes, Rex |
Depends on what you consider Best, dassi..
We all have different perspectives, like, dislike,it is almost impossible your q. |
opps again, pc trouble, should have impossible to ANSWER your q..:)

What do you want? Chic city with a dresscode (as if they exist, all cities are dressed down)? Ocean resort? Uber urban industrial chic?
I love the Costa Smeralda, the ultimate Italian island experience; Neapolitan riviera for classical beauty; Tenerife - Hotel Botanico in Puerto de la Cruz is a nice retreat at anytime of year if I fancy an impromptu break; the Isle of Man for unpretentious natural beauty, where I have a second home; Corsica which is still relatively untouristy; Paris, the name speaks for itself. |
Just noticed that this was your post too.
======================================= Where to vacation Author: dassi Date: 03/11/2004, 12:09 pm Message: Some friends and I are interested in booking a vacation to Europe for one week this summer. We are in our twenties and want to go someplace exciting and beautiful. Between the five of us we have been to several places in Europe (including England, France, Holland, Italy, Switzerland), and we do not want to repeat any of these destinations. Does anybody have any suggestions of vacation destinations in Europe? Some of the countires we are looking into are: Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Scotland, Sweden, and Denmark. Thanks. ========================= Some rather critical information to leave out of THIS post! |

Turkey?
|
Consider Slovenia.Beautiful,friendly,inexpensive.Lake Bled in the mountains is extremely beautiful.
|
Let me clarify: My firends are looking for a fun place to vacation. We are not beach/resort types. We generally like bigger cities with lots to do in the way of culture, museums etc.
|
Berlin
|
London, Paris, Rome, Berlin, Amsterdam, Copenhagen, Vienna, Prague, Timbuktu.
|
Well, if you exclude "England, France, Holland, Italy, Switzerland"... and want to look at "Spain, Portugal, Ireland, Scotland, Sweden, and Denmark"....
Now I've not yet been to Scandinavia or Portugal or Ireland. I've heard nice things about Lisbon though. I'd agree with a previous poster that you should consider Berlin -- it seems to be one of these places that's very much in the spotlight these days. I like Barcelona when I was there -- I prefer this to Berlin, in fact. |
It's kind of hard to answer this question, Dassi. It's sort of like going to a music discussion board and asking, "what's the best rock album?" If you're new to rock music, I would say start with the basics, like the Rolling Stones. But it may well turn out that you don't like the Stones at all.
So, with that in mind, if you want to know what the "Rolling Stones" of European travel would be...I'd say go to Paris or Venice. (And, if someone has been intrigued by my tortured analogy, my top Stones recommendations are Sticky Fingers, Let It Bleed, and Exile on Main Street.) |
STOCKHOLM....by far my favorite city in Europe. Its magical, clean, green, water everywhere, amazing architecture.
I just need to have the dollar climb a bit more to enjoy it again. |
Rock on mr go !
Dassi, if you are under 30 consider Barcelona. |
I'd stay away from France unless you've never been to Paris, in which case, a day or two there at the most!
Then the goodies, London, Florence, Barcelona, Amsterdam (All are youthful and full of vitality). Rome for the art, Vatican city and ancient ruins but not altogether pleasant experience otherwise. I'd steer clear of Venice (big diappointment). Take the train everywhere and have a blast! K. |
I cannoyt make any sense of either of these two statements:
<<I'd stay away from France unless you've never been to Paris, in which case, a day or two there at the most!>> <<I'd steer clear of Venice (big diappointment).>> In fact, it adds to all the more reason to taking this advice with a HUGE grain of salt... <<Take the train everywhere and have a blast!>> The reasons for taking a train on a route of more than four hours are disappearing with each passing day in Europe. Flying - - at least for this decade - - is the bargain mode of travel, except for shorter distances. |
Italy, hands down, up, or reaching into your pockets.
|
P.S. Can't argue with your three picks, Mr.Go, and I'd add Beggars Banquet.

Hi Rex,
Didn't realize this was a censored board. You had a typo in your message too. : ) I apologize for my typo. If dassi likes the Rollingstones he's looking for some fun. I think Paris, although lovely, has less to offer if you are interested in having a great time. It's too prissy and uptight.I'm an architect and interested in art galleries. Not a total dummy. ; ) Barcelona, Amsterdam and London rock! They also have a young culture and incredible vitality. Florence is quieter but can't be matched in museums, art, sculpture and atmosphere. I was completely blown away by it. Ireland is great too. Dublin is a lot of fun, as is Galway. (Very 20 something culture). There are some interesting spots between the two to stretch out the week. : ) Venice was a huge disappointment for me. Sorry if I'm stepping on some toes. It is such a sad tourist mecca. Enjoyed what I saw there but would never want to go back. In fact it was almost as prissy as Paris! Do I detect a pattern here? My opinion is different, not a poor opinion. Dassi, since some of your group has been to some of these places, I'd probably vote for Barcelona. Lots to do and tons of nightlife. See lots of opinions! Have a wonderful trip! And there's nothing wrong with trains if you have the time. Kakalena |
Disagreeing with your opinions is not censoring them. I said that they made no sense to me. I am 50; you may be younger, and your opinion may be better for dassi than mine.
As for trains... <<And there's nothing wrong with trains if you have the time.>> ... nothing wrong except that they can cost 2-5 times what flying costs on routes of 6-24 hours. The question was so vague - - even with the additional clarification - - that it only makes sense that there will be widely differing opinions. |
Capo
Agreed. I would definitely put Beggar's Banquet on the short list. And if you haven't heard the recent SACD hybrid remaster, it's very highly recommended! |
