Best hotel & restaurants in Bruges
 

My 22-year old daughter and I will be in Bruges for one day and one night on our way from Amsterdam to Paris. My budget is between $150 and $200 U.S. dollars per night.

Would very much appreciate any advice/guidance to finding a good hotel.

Also, we'd love some restaurant recommendations as well. We are adventurous eaters, no food allergies, eat meat and seafood, not fussy. Although I'm not a beer drinker, my daughter loves a good brew. Would be particularly interested in a place that serves Belgium cuisine, something we're not likely to get here in California.

We absolutely adored the Grand Hotel Casselburgh when we stayed there this past October. Beautiful rooms and public spaces, a fabulous buffet breakfast, great location just steps from the Burgh and main square. Highest recommendation.
We got a great online deal for 128 euro/night including breakfast and a welcome glass of cava.
We enjoyed a meal at Cambrinus, which is a very historic old Belgian pub, featuring a delicious carbonnade and many, many varieties of beer. A very historic spot. We also had a great dinner of mussels and frites (a Belgian specialty) at Poules Moules in town, as well as fabulous waffles at a café right on the main square whose name escapes me. Be sure and take a canal cruise and wander the streets, check out the chocolate shops including Dimon and the Chocolate Line (exquisite) explore the museums for wonderful art. We stayed for four nights and could have stayed longer. A truly beautiful place.

In early May we are staying at Martin's Relais, it could be horrible, it could be wonderful, we will let you know. One of the days we will be there is a Monday, when a number of the better restaurants are closed.

I'm a total Virgo when it comes to planning, and I've got all my hotels booked for my 3 week, multi-city trip in late July/August. :) I went with el13207's recommendation for the Grand Hotel Casselburgh in Bruges. It looks fabulous. I booked all through Hotels.com (where I've scored many free rooms over the years) and all except my Prague hotel allows me to cancel up to the day of check-in, if need be, without any penalty. I hope you guys have a great trip when you go in May!

We have use Booking.com in about seven or eight countries and have only had one near miss. We also take a look at Expedia and try to read between the lines as to how good or bad a place may be. I totally discount TA, because they are many reviews that are planted both good and bad. And TA also seems to have more inexperienced travelers who often have strange expectations.

Cambrinus is fabulous. Make sure to get the Westvleteren beer, which you cannot get in the USA and probably not outside of Belgium, full stop.

Here's the TA site for hotels in Bruges. Click on a property and scroll down to the reviews. TA also has sites for restaurants and things to do. Some people are not fans of TA but we use it for every trip and find it very helpful.
