Best Guide Books for Greece and Turkey?

My husband and I are in our early 30's and planning for a 12 day adventure to Greece and Turkey in May. Looking for a mid-range priced vacation and to see and experience the food, history and sights of Istanbul and Athens. Can anyone recommend a few especially good guidebooks? Thanks very much.

New editions of Lonely Planet and Eyewitness guides for both country & cities will do. However checking fodors for old post may also be fine especialyy for restaurant suggestions.

Happy travelling

I live in Istanbul and have traveled through much of Turkey - I have found Rough Guide Turkey to be the best, with Lonely Planet coming in second...Not sure about Greece though!

I've found the FROMMERS guides ( sorry, FODORS!) to Turkey and Greece more user-friendly than the EYEWITNESS guides, esp. because of their in-depth descriptions of where to go, hotels, and restaurants.
