Best Fromagerie in Paris
My father and I are heading to Paris soon, and we both love good cheese. Was wondering if anyone knew of a great fromagerie in Paris that carries great French Cheese. Thanks

Almost any neighborhood will have a good fromagerie, although they often specialize. One might clearly have a better selection of goat cheeses, while another a better selection of soft ripened cheeses, etc. Look for the fromager artisan, who often does his own finishing. I saw a very good fromagerie on the rue Cler. Covered markets usually have very good cheese shops (Place d'Aligre, for example). I would not cross Paris just to find the "best" fromagerie.

If you plan to visit Notre Dame or Ile St. Louis, there's a wonderful fromagerie on the main street on the ile--it's near the west end.

xman, here's list for you of all the fromageries in the different arr.

ANY fromagerie in Paris will have great "French Cheese." That's what they're there for. Just go to whatever fromagerie is closest to where you're staying.

xman, all fromagerie places in Paris are excellent. Even the selection in the supermarkets (little more industrial), but still very good too. One place I like very much is the selection at the Bon Marche in their food hall.
Which neighborhood are you staying in? |
xman,
As everyone has told you, all the cheese shops will have great products. From the handy list that cigalechanta gave you, if you find yourself in the 7th, my favorite there is Barthelemy on the rue de Grenelle-a cheese lover's heaven with very nice ladies to help you . Or around the corner from the Rue de Cler market, we like Marie-Anne Catin on the rue du Champ du Mars where we bought a beautiful cheese platter in addition to fantastic cheeses. |
