Best French language course
 

I've been going to France for years and speak enough French to get by even in very small villages but would now like to take it up to a higher level. Would French language course is best to achieve a fairly fluent level of French? Has anyone used the Barron's 12 CD course originally developed by the US Dept. of State?

The best French language course by far is Michael Thomas'. If you feel that you are beyond the level of this, then buy his language builder CD pack.

I've had pretty good luck with Pimsleur French cd's. I am now on Pimseleur 3. If you already speak French and are rusty, this would be a good way to brush up but I don't know about taking it to the next level. I buy mine on E-bay and resell them after I'm done or check them out from the Library.

Check to see what your library has. Would be a good way to try before buying.

If you live in a large city, see if there is a local chapter of L'Alliance Francaise. This is a worldwide French cultural organization. They generally offer French courses at all levels (taught by native speakers), and also host cultural events that are well attended by any French ex-pats in the area. You would find lots of opportunities to practice.
