Best Food in Barcelona?

Where can I find the best tapas and paella in Barcelona?

Carol,

For tapas in the Eixample:

"Qu Qu" (Passeig de Gracia (#24)- one of the best, I think, of the many tapas bars on this elegant shopping street-serves salads, cheeses, charcuterie

For tapas that make a 4 star meal in the Barri Gotic:

"Cal Pep" (Placa de les Olles #8-near Picasso Museum)-get there early (by 1:30) to have tapas at the lively, miniscule, crowded bar, exceptional grilled fish ("peixet fregit") & seafood prepared by owner and helpers outfitted with walkie-talkies and anchorman type microphones attatched at their lapels to keep up with the constant, manic stream of orders, just order what others are having, no menu, and order the house white wine

For paella:

1) "Set Portes" (Passeig de Isabel II #14)-near waterfront behind a collonade of 7 archways-founded in 1836- a Barcelona institution, sprawling, lovely Parisian style cafe decor-black/white tiled floors, bentwood chairs, mirrors, marble tabletops, beamed ceilings, super efficient waiters in long white aprons, 11 different paellas-popular with families on Sundays-great "pa am tomaquet" (a Catalan bruschetta), spinach with raisins ("espinacas a la crema con pasas")-piano music after 10, menu in 4 languages, good selection of sorbets and gelats for dessert. Large portions-a classic-reasably priced-book ahead!

Happy eating!

For paella, go to Valencia.

For wonderful meals in Barcelona, try Agut (Barri Gotic) or Cheval Blanc (Eixample / Passeig de Gracia)

My girlfriend & I went to two Basque pinxto bars which had been recommended by a woman we know, who loves food, and we loved both of them. One of them is Txapela, on the east side of Passeig de Gracia, about a block south of Gran Via. It's hard to miss as it has large doors opening onto the sidewalk. Huge selection of pinxtos and seating at both the bar and at tables. The other one place was in the Barri Gotic, a bit northwest of Santa Maria del Mar church, on Carrer de L'Argenteria. I don't recall any tables, or even chairs at the bar at this one, stand up only, and not as big a selection as Txapela but also less expensive and just as delicious! In fact, we liked it so much we ate there twice.

Have fun!

Ooops! Forgot to mention the name of the one in the Barri Gotic; it's either Sagardi or Sargardi.

My vote goes to Cal Pep also!
When I am in Barcelona I try to eat there at least twice.
Save room for dessert...Crema Catalonia made to order.
Don't miss La Boqueria market. Get some food there for a picnic at the Parc Guell.
Have a great trip!
