Best fish & chips shop in London

Can anyone tell me which and where is the best fish and chips shop in London, without being too greasy.

Roughly how much would it cost ?

Ahhh, one of my favorite things about London. I like Geales in Notting Hill and Sea Shell in Lisson Grove. They can't be missed. I'm heading over next week and will make my usual stop at both. Enjoy.

If you're near St Gile's circus, you might want to make a quick sidetrip to Gig's FishBar and Kebab House at 12 Tottenham St. Gig's has been a favorite of mine for over 25 years...

Geales and the Seashell are also very good choices, and IIRC Ben Haines posted the name/directions for a good F&C shop near the Victoria Bus Terminal that I also enjoyed.

(Be sure to try the doner kebab at Gig's, its fantastic!!)
Best wishes for a great trip! Dave

a doner kebab is what we'd call a gyros (greek or lebanese) sandwich here. You know, the "triangle" of meat or chicken that is on sort of a spit and the cook shaves off the cooked outside meat and puts it in pita bread with sauce. Very yummy, and lots of those shops in London.

The Fryer's Delight in Theobald's Road, near Holborn. It's run by Italians and the fish and chips are close to perfection. They do take-away and there is waitress service. You can't miss it because there's always a row of taxis parked outside - they know where to get a good cheap meal.
