That the current political administration has allowed the airlines to continue their non-competitive, consumer NON-oriented manner of doing business and since YOU are a consumer then WE as the airlines can do anything we want, when we want, and that is why your flight was cancelled, late, your seat assignment was changed, we lost your reservation, and we now charge you for food.

Daughter is a flight attendant and told us this story of a time the pilot was just too complete in his explanation. Their plane was delayed (with passengers on board) due to mechanical difficulties. The mechanics were in and out of the forward doors doing their repair. There is some combo of things that must be completed by FAs and checked before the doors are properly closed and takeoff is safe. Well, apparently the mechanics left "something" in the wrong position such that when the lever was pulled the tail section "falls off" in some fashion. It did and the pilot said so. It was of course reparable but daughter was less than happy that the pilot told the whole truth.

To be fair, shouldn't you say this and every political administration since Carter has allowed the airlines to continue non-competitive practices. To single out the current President for a situation that has been in the making since The Airline Dergulation Act of 1978 smacks of political myopia.

BTW, most studies show that airfares have actually declined since 1978 by about 30%, when inflation is factored in. The fares that have risen are from cities where 1 or 2 airlines dominate with a hub. But, the tradeoff for those markets has been an increase in the number of destinations local residents can reach on a direct flight.
