best day trips from florence?
we will be in florence for 4.5 days in early september. we plan to enjoy florence for 2.5 days and take day trips for the other 2 days. there are so many great choices for day trips so it's hard to choose! i'm looking to you for help, fodorites :)
of this list below, which 2 would you choose? - siena - pisa - cinque terre (join small tour) - chianti region (join small tour) |
Siena = #1.
The rest? Probably in the order you listed. |
I would have to go with Siena as well!
|
1/2 day - Pisa is easy by train (under 10€ one way).
Siena - full day by bus on your own (about 8€ one way). CT - a bit far. CAF tours offers a 12 hour tour and there are other companies. Chianti - some bus service, but tour would cover more. I enjoy Siena, but if the rest of your travel is all cities, you might want to pick one of the small town/countryside choices. |
1. Siena. I spent half a day there two years ago, and wanted to stay longer...
2. Pisa. While it's chaotic and crowded there, it is one of those famous sites that you should see since you're so close by anyway... and it doesn't take long to see the Field of Miracles area, the main tourist area. We were there for two hours on a bus tour, and had time to take photos of the tower, tour the inside of the cathedral, and walk around the other buildings... In an afternoon on your own, you should be able to see most things of interest there. |
Don't forget Ravenna- look it up on Google or elsewhere, the byzantine mosaics in the four different locations are stunning!
